Rovian is a modern online chess application that seamlessly blends classic gameplay with real opponents and contemporary communication technologies. The platform’s unique feature allows players to engage in face-to-face matches where a standard chess board and timer are augmented by live video streaming and real-time voice chat. This creates a strong sense of presence, making each match more engaging and social than traditional text-based chess apps.
Users can select from various time controls, including Bullet, Blitz, and Rapid, and participate in rated matches to track their progress effectively. Beyond standard tournaments, arenas, and leaderboards, the app offers specialized game variants such as Chess960, Bughouse (2v2), and Hand & Brain. To improve skills, players can solve daily and community puzzles, practice against the computer in offline mode, watch live games, and analyze moves.
The social aspect allows users to find friends, track opponents, send messages, and build their own chess circle. Profiles store ratings, statistics, and match history, syncing data across different devices for a consistent experience. A key feature is full control over media; you decide whether to enable the camera and microphone.
You can end calls, report unwanted behavior, or block other players. An internet connection is required for online matches, while camera and microphone access are used only at your discretion.
